Sukhothai Kitchen [formerly known as Arroythai Kitchen]

Good things are meant to be shared. Amidst all the beauty posts, here's a food review post on Sukhothai Kitchen that serves authentic Thai food.

Sukhothai Kitchen AMK: Blk 408 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 #01-773

Sukhothai Kitchen
[formerly known as Arroythai Kitchen] has 2 outlets currently - Bugis and Ang Mo Kio. Thanks to Herine's extended invite, we went to the AMK outlet for food tasting.

Do note that Sukhothai Kitchen AMK is closed on alternate Mondays. For more info, pls refer to the image above for their operating hours/days.

Here's the menu of their recommended dishes and popular Thai rice/noodle dishes, for reference. By the way, they offer a great deal for the lunch crowd >> pay only $3.90 (u.p. $5) for your fave Phad Thai/Pineapple Fried Rice!

Are you ready for some food porn? :d~

Mango Salad
- $5 / $10

This is one of my faves in this food tasting session. It is a simple yet mind-blowing dish.

I don't usually fancy mango salads but I really love this particular one. The sourness of the green mango coupled with the sweet and tangy sauce... ahh... BLISS!

Home Made Thai Prawn Cake
- $5 / $10

To be honest, this is my least fave dish. Hmm... firstly, I think that the outer crust is not crispy enough. Secondly, there is not much prawn taste.

Well, that's just my personal preference.

Deep Fried Garlic Pork
- $6 / $10

If you don't already know, i hate garlic. Interestingly, I am very okay with garlic bread and garlic sauce for chicken rice.

The deep fried pork comes in bite-size pieces, making them easy-to-eat. After promptly removing the garlic bits before eating, I think they are pretty tasty - crispy and not that greasy. Just a lil' garlicky though. Garlic lovers will love it!

Tom Yum Seafood (Clear)
- $5 / $10

How can we not try the classic hot and sour Tom Yum soup?! As usual, do not be fooled by the seemingly mild-looking clear soup.

For someone like me who can take spicy food, I think the spicy level is just right for me. That goes the same for the sourness.

Tom Yum Seafood (Red)
- $5 / $10

If you cannot take too spicy food, then go for the red version. It is not that spicy (according to my taste buds), and has a hint of sweetness.

Overall, I enjoyed both versions very much. And, I seriously think that the price is really reasonable for a bowl of lovely tom yum soup (be it clear or red) with authentic taste and decently fresh seafood ingredients.

*commercial break* See how much 2 ladies can eat?! Not to mention, we had more dishes coming up then :x

Pineapple Fried Rice
- $5

Pineapple Fried Rice is one of my all-time fave Thai dishes. Here at Sukhothai Kitchen, it has generous portions of lap cheong (a type of Chinese sausage / 腊肠) bits, plus pineapple bits, cashew nuts, pork floss, raisins, prawns, etc.

Needless to say, it is one of the best ones I've tried... and I think the cheapest! (This food post is making me hungry =.=)

Fried Minced Pork with Basil Leaf
- $8 / $12

The best basil minced pork I've ever eaten is at this Thai food stall at my neighbourhood market. This one I tried is on par. The former is savory while the latter taste a lil' sweet.

Both are very flavorful minus the distinctive taste of basil! Not a fan of basil... :s

Fried Kai Lan with Roast Pork
- $8 / $12

I don't wish to sound like a broken record BUT I really hate garlic. This is yet another garlic-laden dish. Thai people really love garlic a lot!

Bottomline, it is definitely way too garlicky for me to like it. Garlic lovers, you need to try this!

Fyi, this is the garlic they use (not the normal kind). According to Francis (owner of Sukhothai Kitchen), these cute lil' ones taste nicer (sweeter).

Baked Big Prawn with Glass Noodle
- $16 / $22

O-M-G! This has lots of garlic in it as well! BUT it is sooo tasty that I cannot help but love it!

Forget about the garlic (and prawn)... just gimme the glass noodles will do! They taste simply divine after fully absorbing the flavorful sauce. Super 入味!

Steamed Fish with Spicy Lemon Sauce
- $22 (sea bass) / $28 (garoupa)

Last dish of the day! We just wanted to try, so a miniscule portion (sea bass) is served.

It smells uber appetizing coz of the spicy lemon sauce. And, it is the sauce that what makes the dish unique. Very delish!

If you love quality authentic Thai food at affordable prices, Sukhothai Kitchen is the place to go!

[PS: They also serve Mookata by reservation!]
