VDL Eye Bomb Mascara

A mascara review... like finally! Oops... :x

Okay, I digress. I previously mentioned VDL Eye Bomb Mascara in the VDL introduction post HERE. Have been using it for some time, and I reckon it is time for a proper review (more mascara reviews coming soon!).

Lovin' its simple yet classy design - shiny black tube/cap with silver wordings

1. Boom-up Formula

  • Boom-up Formula: the melted blending wax evenly covers the lashes for volume that explodes off the face
  • Boom-Up Lengthening: the cottony light fibers help mascara last longer by adhering to lashes
  • Boom-Up Curling: the firm, light jelly formula cushions and makes for the best extreme curling

2. Mixture Oxygen

  • contains oxygenated water for a light, yet long-lasting effect that treats lashes while it beautifies

The straight brush has short spiky black/white bristles, with the black ones more closely aligned. Rather unique, isn't it?

3. Boosting Brush

  • the mega-balancing brush (optimized for the boom-up formula), boosts volume, length and promotes curls.

Smart cleansing: mega-oxygen technology means no more smearing or fading on the eyes.
Eye-Bomb Wax Storage Container: the large, round container is specially designed to contain plenty of Boom-Up Formula.
Eye-Bomb Express: the white express dual-blending wax goes on thick for the most explosive volume statement, while the black express comb means mascara goes on smoothly for the best curling.

According to VDL, Eye Bomb Mascara creates the most explosive eye lashes. I would say, it fares pretty well for a non-waterproof mascara. Here, I applied 2 coats of Eye Bomb. Do note that my lashes were curled with eyelash curler prior application.

This is a mascara with a not too dry or wet formula. What I like about Eye Bomb is that it applies really smoothly and easily. And, it is black enough to define my lashes. The short spiky bristles help to separate my lashes evenly, making sure that all of them are well-coated with mascara, including the teeny weeny ones. The lightweight mascara fibers cling on to my lashes, lengthening them slightly. No unsightly clumps. My lashes look moderately volumized and they don't feel that heavy or stiff, which is good.

Despite being non-waterproof, I assure you that there are no smudges or flakes at the end of the day. It is easily removed as well. I tried using Bioderma Crealine H2O Micelle Solution and it works like a charm!

My only gripe about Eye Bomb is that it does not hold curls well. My lashes droop within an hour after application. Well, you can always layer on a waterproof one for extra oomph (:

Hope my review helps. Thank you for reading.

VDL Eye Bomb Mascara retails for S$34, available exclusively at VDL (Suntec City #02-338/339).

Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara

I just realized I haven't review mascara(s) for the longest time. The last was Lashionista. So far, I've been trying out a few new ones... and going back to my trusty ones (think Heroine Make) when I'm out for events and such.

And so, I'm back with a review on Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara. Dasoda is a relatively new brand by the way, if it seems unfamiliar to you.

CLICK HERE to read more about Dasoda.

The packaging is simple - a black tube with gold wordings and cap.

I was really excited to try out this new mascara, since it seemed promising. Besides, I heard fellow beauty bloggers raving about Dasoda's mascaras.

The mascara brush is hourglass-shaped, with short bristles.

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes and no.

This is 3 coats of mascara, with my lashes curled (with eyelash curler) prior application. Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara does not hold curls well as my lashes droop shortly after application.

I like mascaras that have a slightly dry formula and it fits the bill. However, I find that it coats my lashes thinly albeit evenly. Even after 3 coats, my lashes look really sparse. I don't think it lengthens. Neither does it volumizes. I do like that it separates my lashes pretty well, giving them a bit of definition.

And, I also like mascaras that are black-black but this mascara's black is not that rich.

No doubt, this mascara has more misses than hits. Overall, my lashes look really natural... with no clumps, smudges or flakes at the end of day. If you love dolly lashes like I do, you can layer a volume mascara over it.

Though it has a waterproof formula, it can be easily washed off using lukewarm water. I prefer using an eye makeup remover though.

Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara retails for S$25.90, available exclusively at Sasa.

LOTD feat. Hello Kitty Makeup

A more complete range of Hello Kitty Makeup is now available in Watsons. The range is pretty comprehensive, which consists of compact powder, eyeshadow, blusher, lipstick, lipgloss, nail polish, mascara, eyeliner, brushes, etc.

Products I received:-

  • Kawaii Black Hello Kitty cosmetic pouch set [limited edition] >> Kawaii Duo Eyeshadow HK00-13 OR & TERREMagnetic Gloss HK18-03 Baby Lip
  • Hello Kitty Pretty Mascara HK03-04 INTENS' BROWN
  • Hello Kitty Blush HK10-04 LA HAVANE

Swatches: blush, mascara, lip gloss, duo eyeshadow [3rd shade at the right is mixed]

Hello Kitty Kawaii Duo Eyeshadow - $14.90

There are a total of 9 duos in matching or complementary shades to brighten the eyes with a single brush stroke. The shade I receive, is a pigmented duo of dark brown and antique gold. When mixed, it becomes a lovely shade of golden brown. The duo eyeshadow is not overly shimmery, and has a beautiful satin finish. It can used dry or wet.

The quality is pretty impressive, much better than expected. To be honest, I was expecting it to be either slightly chalky or gritty, with average color payoff. It was definitely a pleasant surprise when I first swatched the eyeshadow. The colors translated well on my lids. Even without using an eye primer/base, the eye color last the whole day without fading, flaking or creasing.

Hello Kitty Pretty Mascara - $18.90

It comes with a high tech double fiber brush, which claims to give double action length and extreme volume, for longer and thicker lashes.

It does thicken my lashes, giving slight lengthening effect. It coats and separates the lashes well too. No clumps at all. Since it's not waterproof, it doesn't hold the curls well. There's no flaking or smudging at the end of day though.

Available in 4 shades >> green, black, blue, brown.

Hello Kitty Blush - $17.90

It is a compact blush to brighten the complexion and sculpt facial features. The texture is ultra sheer, with a mineral pigment base.

Available in 5 shades. Mine is a warm rose brown shade. It has shimmers, but not obvious to the naked eye. Like the duo eyeshadow, it has a lovely satin finish.

Hello Kitty Magnetic Gloss - $18.90

The shade I receive, is a very shimmery baby pink. The color is very subtle. I like that the texture is non-sticky but dislike the sweet fruity scent/flavor.

Available in 6 shades, either lacquered or iridescent. Mine is the latter.

Here's a really simple look I've created, using the above mentioned products.

Maybelline Lashionista Mascara

Lashionista is the latest lengthening mascara by Maybelline. The quirky name is cleverly derived from fashionista, which depicts an endless (lash) length obsession.

For natural, long lashes that stay up and go up.

Lashionista is fashionably dressed in bright neon pink, perfect with bits of black and silver. Beautiful combi, isn't it?

Endless Length

Contains new innovation 4mm fibers, which is 2x longer than classic ones.

Uplifted Lashes

With an ultra-light gravity-defying film, lashes stay up.

Flawless, No Clumps

The Just Fit Brush is developed specially for Asian eyes. Feels just like your own lashes, with zero clumps.

24h Smudge-proof

Resists tears and sebum. No flaking, smudging. Removes with warm water.

The brush is curved, to fit Asian eyes, like mine. This way, each and every lash is coated with mascara. Some brushes can be too big to work with, but not this one.

Before mascara application, I will usually curl my lashes since I don't have naturally curled lashes.

When I tried Lashionista for the 1st time, I didn't quite like it. The mascara was on the wet side, and it couldn't seem to coat my lashes well. My mascara-ed lashes looked pathetic, to be honest.

On subsequent uses, I started to develop some liking for it. For the above image, I applied the usual 2 coats. The lengthening effect is pretty good, with the fibers clinging onto the lash tips. As you can see, my lashes are naturally defined and separated evenly.

Hmm... my lashes don't stay curled all day long though, the fact that it ain't waterproof.

I personally prefer to apply multiple coats to achieve the lash effect I want. Even by doing so, my lashes don't look clumpy at all. And, there's no flakes or smudges at the end of the day. Alternatively, I'll layer with a good volume mascara for a "fake lash" effect.

All in all, if you desire natural-looking lashes with a lil' definition, you can safely purchase it.

Retails for $21.90 at Watsons, Guardian, Sasa, etc.

My Holy Grail Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara

I've never stop raving about Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara, ever since I tried it. In fact, I can never stop raving. I am truly, madly, deeply in love with it. The mascara I cannot live without, indeed. Holy grail standard, it is.

And so, it comes in a "RENEW-ed" version, which gives 120% longer AND darker (intense glossy black) lashes.

The "RENEW-ed" mascara is housed in a hot pink tube, looking so princessy with the pretty rose motifs (on the cap). The "old" version pales in comparison.

Both brushes look the same to me.

The secret to 120% longer lashes lies in the mascara formula, which contains the Super Long Up Fiber - 1.5 times longer fibers!

The "RENEW-ed" mascara, pretty in hot pink!

The brush is curved, specially shaped to fit the natural curve of the lashes to ensure every single strand is coated and curled. The size is just right for me, easy to work with.

1. Bare lashes.

2. Curl lashes with lash curler prior mascara application.

3. Viola~ Nicely curled lashes!

4. Apply Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara - place brush on the base of lashes and use the inner curve to brush upwards for extra curl.

Here's how my lashes look like, after applying 2 coats of Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara. Awesome or what?! I've got the EYE POWER :P

The "RENEW-ed" version comes in a slightly wetter and darker formula. I don't really like my mascaras to be wet as drier ones tend to work better for me. Here's a nifty tip I learnt from the renowned makeup artist, Larry Yeo at the Haraju-Cute Launch Event >> after dipping the mascara wand into the tube, wave it in the air for a few seconds prior mascara application. This will help dry out the mascara formula, which is good in this case. Once the mascara starts to dry out in the long run, you can safely do without the wave-motion.

My mascara-ed lashes look so well defined, separated and fanned out. The short brush bristles ensure that each and every lash is coated evenly with mascara, from root to tip. Even the tiniest of lashes is not spared. And, the lovely fibers give the illusion of long fluttery lashes. For the record, the lashes don't feel heavy or stiff at all, despite staying beautifully curled all day long. No clumps, smudges, flakes or whatsoever. No amount of tears, perspiration, water and sebum can ruin my lashes. I don't think there's anything I dislike about this mascara. That explains why it's holy grail

Heroine Make mascaras are well known to be a pain to remove. Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover does the job perfectly. It's gentle yet powerful! Mark my words (:

By the way, I'm using the same brand Smooth Liquid Eyeliner for this LOTD, which happens to be my holy grail too! See how intensely black it is... I ought to do a proper review on it soon

I shall end the review with a photo taken at the Maybelline Lashionista Launch Event (credits to Valerie). Even from a distance, my mascara-ed lashes can still be seen clearly!

Convinced? Go grab Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara at Watsons!

Review / LOTD - Dramatic Long Mascara & Dramatic Rich Liquid Eyeliner

A while ago, I received some makeup goodies from Plusoneasia Pte Ltd (Thank you, Eileen!). In this post, I'll be reviewing products from Dramatic Cosmetics - Long Mascara and Rich Liquid Eyeliner

160% longer lashes? Sounds promising yea?

Hot pink + black, makes me happy ^^

As you can see from the image above, it contains fibers that are supposed to help lengthen your lashes.

Ooo... this liquid eyeliner can withstand tears (no panda eyes)!

The brush tip is 0.1mm, which allows flexibility in lining the eyes. According to preference, you can draw thinly or thickly. I prefer the latter (:

It can be layered on for greater intensity. True to its name, it is really rich (black). Rich glossy black, to be precise.

For this LOTD, I applied L'oreal Color Infallible Eyeshadow 031 Innocent Turquoise over the eye contour area, 'Alice' from Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland (UDAIW) on the eyelid, 'White Rabbit' (UDAIW) to highlight the brow bone area and inner bottom lashline, 'Underland' (UDAIW) on outer bottom lashline. Fyi, no eye primer was used.

I used Shu Uemura Hard Formula Eyebrow Pencil to shape the brows and fill the gaps.

This was my LOTD for the Matrix Biolage Day Event. For the record, the eye colors definitely look brighter and more intense in real life.

I didn't line my eyes thickly. Maybe I should? The liquid eyeliner formula is a lil' wet, hence I'll wait a while for it to dry before opening my eyes. If not, there'll be smudges. I like that brush tip is soft, which allows me to line my eyes gently and smoothly, with ease and flexibility. I suppose it's waterproof since it can withstand tears. It doesn't smudge or flake all day long. I like how rich and intense the black is, and the hint of glossiness. It is good enough to make it to my list of my favorite liquid eyeliners. Woots!

For my lashes, I curled 'em prior applying 2 coats of mascara. The mascara formula is a lil' wet too, which takes slightly longer to dry. So don't be too quick to bat your eyes. I don't think it is waterproof coz it doesn't state so. Sad to say, it does weigh down my lashes. Well, it does its job best at lengthening. And clearly, there's not much volume to speak of. That aside, the mascara applied very smoothly and easily. No clumping, flaking, smudging.

Both are easily removed using a good eye makeup remover.
