Red, a color I'm obsessed with recently. Is this a sign of ageing ? Not really since I still heart my pink & purple :p
Well, I guess most ladies including me assume that red lips ain't suitable for us. Wrong, so wrong ! It is all about choosing the right color, one can pull off red lips beautifully.
Those warm skin-tone with yellow or olive undertones, it is advisable to choose one with orange or brown undertones. Think brick red (warm brown red) and fire-engine red (intense bright red). Those cool skin-tone with pink or red undertones, choose one with blue or pink tones. Do remember to go light on the rest of the face (eye makeup & blusher), else you will look like a clown =_="
For me, I will usually line my eyes with a black eyeliner and coat my lashes with blackest black mascara (alternatively fake lashes). Those with double eyelids can safely skip the eyeliner part. I will use a soft pink blusher or just do without blusher.
As red lipstick tends to bleed, you can opt to fill in lips with red lip liner first. In this case, I didn't. I just simply use the lipstick straight on my lips, not even using a lip brush :x Well, the way to apply varies from individuals (as long you like it).
Btw I used L'oreal Color Riche 643 Red Passion and it is supposed to be more suitable for porcelain (fair) skintone (think Fann Wong). BUT I am nowhere near to fair -.- This was given to me as part of the goodie bag from my very 1st L'oreal Bloggers Party event.
It is an intense bright red for sure. It is glossy so application is a breeze. The formula is not dry at all, no worries (: On a closer scrutiny, there are actually micro-shimmer bits. Those who fancy some shimmery touch, will love this lippy (like I do) :p It is always good to apply red lips using a lip brush for better precision. If you ain't daring enough to wear red lips, just apply the lippy sparingly and blot with a tissue paper for a perfect stained look. You can always play around mixing with other lip colors to obtain your unique lip color.

ReplyDeleteRed lipstick doesn't really suit me so I usually tend to skip them or apply a gloss over it to make the red less intense
