Selsun Blue Anti Dandruff Shampoo

Few months ago, I was suffering from the occasional itchy scalp. I noticed there were flaky bits that looked nothing like dandruff, hence I concluded that it was not a case of dandruff (or anything worse). The itch literally drove me nuts! I kept scratching my head, which results in bleeding. Yes, it is THAT bad!

Thankfully, I had the opportunity to try out Selsun Blue Anti Dandruff Shampoo that is said to be able to control itch. So... did it work for me?

My bro thought that it was detergent (lol)

Selsun Blue Anti Dandruff Shampoo is specially formulated to control the scaling, flaking and itching of the scalp associated with dandruff. It contains Selenium Sulfide 1%, which attacks the root source of the dandruff, treats dandruff and controls recurrence effectively.

The shampoo comes in a milky orange liquidy form with a slightly thick consistency. Taking into account it is both a shampoo and conditioner (2-in-1), it lathers quite well. The scent is pleasant, a lil' stronger than the regular shampoo.

It cleanses well and relieves my itchy scalp slightly after using it for the 1st time. And, I like that it does not dry out my hair like most anti-dandruff shampoos do. That being said, I still use a separate conditioner after using it.

Do note that it is not meant to be used as a daily shampoo. I used it twice a week for 2 weeks and saw results! Now that I've used it for 2 months (at least once a week), my scalp does not itch anymore! #truestory

Well, I am not sure if it does get rid of dandruff. However, if you do not suffer from dandruff, it can be used as a prevention.

Selsun Blue retails for $12.90 (200ml), available at Guardian, Watsons, National Skin Centre, SGH, CGH, pharmacies and supermarkets.

Mentholatum Lip Gel Series - Vitamin, Q10, Hyaluronic Acid

Lip gels... sound pretty intriguing? They are unlike your usual lip balms in stick form, housed in twist-up tubes. This medicated lip gel series launched by Mentholatum, are packaged in squeeze tubes, bearing a striking resemblance to lip gloss.

I like the fuss-free squeeze tubes, as squeezing them gently dispense the right amount to be used on my lips. Plus, it's easy to clean the slanted dispensing tip after every use.

Comes in 3 variants, namely:- Vitamin, Q10, Hyaluronic Acid. Retails for $7.90 each.

These chapped lips remedies contain nourishing vitamins plus nutritional supplements for healthy and moisturized lips.

Vitamin Lip Gel

Vitamin Lip Gel contains 4 essential vitamins (A, B2, C, E) to protect and hydrate the lips. It also contains my favorite menthol, to soothe and refresh lips.

Q10 Lip Gel

Q10 Lip Gel contains Co-Q10 supplement to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and maintain healthy, youthful-looking lips. It also contains ceramide for suppler and fuller lips.

Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gel

Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gel contains hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture, to provide long-lasting lip hydration. It also contains collagen to improve lip texture and elasticity.

They are basically colorless, with Vitamin Lip Gel looking "more opaque".

The lip gels are easy to apply. They glide on my lips smoothly, leaving a thin moisturizing layer of gloss. I like that they are pretty lightweight, and not overly glossy. They don't feel uncomfortably sticky or greasy. All three moisturize my lips well. After they wear off, my lips still stay soft, supple and moisturized without the constant need of reapplying.

Hyaluronic Acid Lip Gel is the most hydrating of the three, with a pleasant fruity scent. The intense moisture effect is really long-lasting. My favorite is the Vitamin Lip Gel, which has a tingling sensation when applied on the lips. I absolutely adore the refreshing minty feel! It soothes and relieves dry, cracked lips very-very well. As for the Q10 Lip Gel, it feels glossier than the other two. It has no scent, by the way. After using it for some time, I find that it does help reduce the appearance of fine lines. My lips look suppler.

Mentholatum Organic Certified Lipbalm

Recently, I was introduced to the new eco-certified Organic Lipbalm range by Japan's No.1 Lipcare Brand - Mentholatum Lipcare. Intrigued by the use of "all natural organic oils", I was really excited to try 'em!

Introducing Mentholatum Organic Certified Lipbalms with the Highest Eco-Cert accreditation:

  • Free of artificial chemicals, preservatives or colorants
  • Healthy, safe and gentle enough even for sensitive lips
  • Recyclable and biodegradable

Using a nourishing blend of natural oils from renowned organic farms globally, its creamy and non-sticky texture glides on smoothly for soft, silky lips.

Organic ingredients are sourced from internationally renowned organic farms:

  • African Organic Shea Butter - soothes & heals dry lips
  • Spanish Organic Oil - fights ageing & prevents chapped lips
  • Argentinean Organic Jojoba Oil - provides long-lasting hydration
  • Columbian Organic Coconut Oil - softens skin for silky smooth lips

My thoughts:

I seriously can't live without lipbalms, especially when I work in a fully air-conditioned office. It is an absolute must-have in my makeup pouch.

My lips are often dehydrated, prone to crack and bleed. There is a wide variety of lipbalms in the market. However, not all have the ability to soothe and heal dry, cracked lips. I'm really glad that Mentholatum Organic Certified Lipbalms are able to soothe and heal my dry, cracked lips!

The lipbalms glide on very smoothly, leaving a colorless sheen on my lips. There is a slight oily feel, which feels soothing instead of uncomfortable. My lips stay moisturized and hydrated for hours, in an air-conditioned environment. I tend to reapply every 3 to 4 hours. After using them for few weeks, I notice my lips have become much healthier than before. My lips are now softer and smoother (lesser fine lines). No more bleeding!

I enjoy using both flavors

  • Lavender & Orange - Hmm... I'm not a fan of lavender... BUT thankfully, it is pretty mild. And, I personally think it blends really well with orange :D
  • Raspberry & Strawberry - The berry flavor sits well with me, as it's not too sweet. I don't really like lipbalms that are strongly flavored, so much so that I can actually taste it :S

Retails at $7.90 each. Available at Watsons, Guardian, supermarkets and departmental stores.

The 15-mins Look

How long do you take to do your makeup? If I've got the time to spare, I'll usually take my own sweet time... say an hour or so? And for simple makeup, I'll need at least 15 mins.

This is my kind of simple LOTD (look of the day) for last thursday, when I attended LancĂ´me media event (that will be covered at a later date). Presentable enough. Nothing elaborate. I was test driving Skin79 Vital Orange BB Cream for the day. And yes, I'm lovin' it! (;

This was how I look after 7 hours (blot once in the late noon).

The close-up.

A wash of matte brown over the lids, using Make Up Store Microshadow [Chocolate]. Dejavu Lash Knockout Mascara, for my lashes. Doesn't help much with maintaining the curls. Commendable volumizing effect though.

I like the liner part. Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Mat Black 0L, then a thinly applied Heroine Make Smooth Liquid Eyeliner over it (as close to the lashline as possible). Extend beyond the lashline.

As for the (smudged out) lower lashline - outer part using MAC Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner [Designer Purple], inner corners using Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil 11 GO WILD.

    FACE

    • Skin79 Vital Orange BB Cream
    • Barry M Blusher 2 [Rose]
    • Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Sand Medium 0-1 << HIT PAN ALERT! LOVE THIS MAX
    • Neogence Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Make Up Serum

    That's all. Thanks for looking!

Sponsored Review: SunPlay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ & UV Body Mist SPF80 PA++

Are you a sun-lover or "hater" (like I do)?

Do you know that even if you're indoors, you still need to apply sunblock?

Which brand comes into your mind when purchasing sunblock products?

With SunPlay now, you can fall in love with the sun!

    SunPlay

A wide range of daily sunscreen products for the entire family. Formulated with three different sun protection technologies, SunPlay provides maximum SPF and UV protection from the harmful rays of the sun. Suitable for everyday use.

Useful information @ SunPlay FB Fanpage:

What does a high SPF protection mean?

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) indicates the effectiveness of a sunscreen lotion. The number indicates how many times the skin will be protected from getting burnt comparing to skin without any sunblock. Calculation: SUNPLAY (SPF)130 x 5(mins) = 650 min = 10.5hrs

Do u know that Sun protection is the most important skin care product you should use everyday?

This is because the number one cause of ageing and damage to the skin (eg. wrinkles & pigmentation) is sun exposure!

The Sample Store had provided me with SunPlay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ & UV Body Mist SPF80 PA++ for review purposes. Thanks TSS! ☺

    SunPlay Super Block SPF130 PA+++

*do note that the mini version here is the old packaging

Sunplay Super Block SPF130 PA+++ has the highest SPF for maximum outdoor protection against harmful UVA & UVB rays all day long. It has a Revolutionary Watery Liquid Formulation that gives you the protection that you need, without you feeling a thing!

    Highly water resistant
    Ideal for face & body

    Retail price: $17.20

I think SPF130 PA+++ is the highest I've seen so far, I don't recall any brand(s) having the same/even higher than this super high SPF. Correct me if I'm wrong ☺

It has a watery liquid formulation; very light watery texture. I like that my face/body doesn't feel greasy or sticky, a common "problem" I encountered using sunblocks with high SPF. It is easily absorbed into my skin, without leaving any white cast. I feel pretty comfortable using this product on my face, as my makeup still looks pretty good after 3-4 hours with minimal need to blot. My makeup would usually look cakey when using sunblocks which are too greasy/sticky.

Do note that for dry/sensitive skin, apply moisturizer prior sunblock application.

    UV Body Mist SPF80 PA++

18 March 2011 - Sunplay . It is an easy-to-apply suncreen with high SPF80 protection from harmful UVB rays that cause the skin to become sun burnt, and PA++ protection from harmful UVA rays that cause wrinkles and skin-aging.

    • High UVA and UVB protection
    • Water resistant, long lasting for all kinds of outdoor activities
    • Easy-to-apply one touch aerosol spray, applies evenly to whole body
    • Refreshing citrus scent, with cooling sensation to soothe sunburn skin
    • Non-greasy and light

    Retail price: $17.90

Hold 6-8 inches away from body to spray. DO NOT spray directly onto face. Spray onto palm then apply evenly on face.

I espcially love the fresh citrus scent, as compared to the typical sunblock scent (which SunPlay Super Block has). The instant cooling sensation feels so good on the skin. It does feel slightly greasy (but not sticky) at first. However, this feeling wears off after it is absorbed into skin. Can you actually see the glow on my thunder thigh (lol)? I haven't use it on my face yet, only for my body. Well, I'm liking it so far ☺

I'm not really a sun-lover, and you hardly catch me going to the beach. My sis is the total opposite. She absolutely loves the sun. And when I go to the beach (once in a blue moon), I'll make sure I re-apply sunblock every few hours. I get tanned so easily, which I absolutely hate. I super envy those who are very fair and doesn't get tanned.

SunPlay products will definitely come in handy when going to the beach for maximum protection!

The last time I went to the beach, was like 2 years ago. And, I was the only one religiously applying sunblock. But, I still became tanned after which :/ Next time, I will use SunPlay!
