Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara

I guess most of you have already heard of the highly acclaimed Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara, which is said to give you true doll lashes -- separated, thick, long, "nylon-shine" lashes.

Marketed as Lancôme's first fragranced mascara, it has whiffs of ultra-feminine floral notes -- a sweet rosy scent.

Retails at $50, available at all Lancôme Beauty counters.

It is elegantly packaged in a curvaceous glossy black tube, embellished with a shower of Lancôme's signature roses.

Lancôme's research laboratories actually took 7 years to perfect this ideal hybrid wand, which is protected by a trio of patents. It has a nylon, conical brush tip that enables it to capture every lash, even the tiny ones at the corner of the eyes.

I curled my lashes prior application, which is a must.

At least 2 coats of mascara is needed for the doll-eye effect. As you can see, the intensity of the black is there. It actually forms a liner effect at the base of lashes, making the eye look so much awake defined.

I usually do 2 coats of mascara, shown in the image above.

My thoughts:

The mascara formula is slightly wet, which takes a while to dry. The first few attempts of using this mascara weren't that favorable, quite messy in a sense. I find that it is much easier to work with after subsequent uses, when the mascara formula is more dried out. This is what I notice for most mascaras.

I find that the brush size is too big to work with, while I like that the iconical brush tip does help in getting to the tiniest of lash easily.

It scores well in thickening and lengthening my lashes sans the clumps, making 'em look fuller. I really like how intense the black is, with a hint of glossiness.

The mascara being non-waterproof, I'm glad that it doesn't smudge/flake on me... not even once. However, the one thing I dislike about a non-waterproof mascara is the lack of ability to hold curls. Well, it is easily removed though -- using Bifesta Eye Makeup Remover.

Overall, this is a pretty good mascara but doesn't have the wow factor. Having said that, I'm sure the waterproof version will fit the bill.

A Neutral LOTD [feat. Integrate Rainbow Grade Eyes BR701]

The 1st quarter of 2012 is ending in a week's time... Woah~ Time really flies!

So far, I've been good, trying to haul necessarily instead of excessively. I recently did some packing and found myself with "new" makeup and skincare to play with use. Needless to say, there is also a considerable amount of old ones that need to be discarded.

One of the "new" makeup I managed to find in my abandoned stash is Integrate Rainbow Grade Eyes BR701. It consists of a glitter shade (the slanted striped one), 3 powder shades in the shape of a heart (2/3 to be precise. heh.) and a cream-colored base.

All the shades are very pretty. I would say they're decently pigmented, considering typical Japanese brand eyeshadows are quite sheer. I love the cream-colored base, as it imparts a pretty glowy sheen sans shimmers.

The powder eyeshadows feel silky smooth, not cheap powdery kind. The shimmers they contain are very finely milled. They're really easy to work with and blend really beautifully.

As for the sparkly rainbow glitter shade, it feels smooth but not densely packed though. A good eye primer like Urban Decay or TFSI will help prevent fall-outs.

I like the color combination though it's clearly not that unique. I'm glad that they hold up well without the use of an eye primer -- no creasing or fading at the end of day.

For this look, I applied the base color then the powder eyeshadows using the easy "gradient" effect. To keep the look simple, I didn't use the rainbow glitter powder.

A doll-lash look, achieved in a jiffy!

Apart from Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara, the dolly-looking models had on eyeshadow colors from Ombré Absolue Impact 3D Palettes (A80 Baby Pop & F90 Baby Nu) respectively.

THE DOLL EYES look

Lancôme shares the secret of a wide open resolutely doll eyes’ look by combining the Ombré Absolue Impact 3D with Hypnôse Doll Eyes Mascara, not forgetting the finishing flick of Iconic Artliner.

My CNY LOTD

My CNY look was rather similar to the earlier LOTD I posted. A cooler version. I won't label it as "sweet" though. Most importantly, I only spent ~20mins on this look!

I didn't like Skin79 Vital Orange BB Cream + YSL Matt Pressed Powder No.1, which makes my complexion look kinda cakey. I much prefer Skin79 with Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Sand Medium 0-1. Apart from that, I love the rest of the products I used for this look! Will be reviewing some of 'em real soon. Stay tuned (:

Korean Style Makeup (The Basics)

안녕하세요 Anyong-haseyo!

Have you noticed that Korean actresses all look so naturally flawless, with their barely there makeup. It is no secret that most of 'em have gone under the knife (plastic surgery). Makeup is still pretty much needed to bring out their (surgically-enhanced) features.

And so, the Basic Korean Style Makeup Look is all about having that flawless, glowy complexion. I've particularly noticed their thick, straight brows. Their eyes are subtly defined (minimal or no eyeshadow, lightly mascara-ed lashes). Natural color for the lips.

I'm using the following products to achieve the Basic Korean Style Makeup Look:-

As you can see, I didn't use many products for this look. Everything was kept fairly simple.

BB Cream, is a must. Gowoonsesang Brightening Balm SPF30 PA++ does the job for achieving flawless complexion. Palgantong Theatrical Powder (Pearl Beige) is lightly applied to set the makeup for that lovely glow.

To conceal my dark eye circles, I used the illuminator part of Lancôme Rénergie Yeux Multiple Lift.

Lancôme Le Crayon Sourcils (Brun).

No eyeshadow was used. Using K-Palette 24H Real Lasting Eyeliner 01 Black, I drew thinly, as close to the (upper) lashline as possible (slightly winged out at the end). For my right eye, I drew a lil' thicker to balance out the eye look. I lined the lower lashline,with Barry M Intense Black Eyeliner Pen.

Only 1 coat of L'oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara (Black) was used for my upper and lower lashes, to naturally define 'em. I did curl my lashes beforehand, just that the mascara didn't hold the curls well :/

I merely smeared on Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm, for a light sheen on my lips. To finish the look, I used Canmake Powder Cheeks PW20 for a natural pink flush on my cheeks.

LOTD/Tutorial: Smoky Emerald (feat. L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in 022 Emerald Lame)

As requested by my reader, I'll be doing a tutorial on a smoky look featuring L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in 022 Emerald Lame.

On my face, I'd already applied Laneige Natural Pure Foundation No.23 Sand Beige. The foundation has a fairly good coverage, which concealed most of my minor flaws like blemishes and scars. To conceal my dark circles, I used Ettusais Eye Zone Control in Yellow/Beige. A little goes a long way. Too much will accentuate fine lines.

I filled my brow gaps using Lancôme Le Crayon Sourcils Eyebrow Pencil in Brun. Make Up For Ever HD Blush #8 PDA, blended on my cheeks.

• Apply Too Faced Shadow Insurance prior eyeshadow application. Using an eye primer will prevent the eyeshadow from fading and creasing.
• Then, I applied L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in 022 Emerald Lame all over the lid area using my (middle) finger. Alternatively, you can use a brush.
• To define my eyes, I tightlined my upper lashline using Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl Waterproof Eyeliner 01 Raisin Noir. I do the same for 1/3 of my lower lashline (from the outer edge inwards).

 

• I smudged the eyeliner lightly using 7bella 5E 05 Pencil Brush, then use the same brush to apply my favorite taupe brown shade from Majolica Majorca Jeweling Eyes PK785 on top of the smudged eyeliner. For a more intense look, you can use a darker eyeshadow.
• I define the outer-V using the same taupe brown shade.
• Using 7bella 7S01 Small Highlight Brush, I lightly dusted a mix of the pale gold & light pink shades from Majolica Majorca Jeweling Eyes PK785 on my brow bone, and blend out the emerald green + taupe brown shades.

 

• I dusted the glittery light pink shade from Lavshuca Star Decoration Eyes BR-2 to highlight the area where my epicanthal fold (with 7bella 3E 01 Eyeliner Brush). I also dusted some above the eye contour.
• Finally, I curled my lashes with Koji eyelash curler no.73 and applied Cyber Colors Ex Volume Waterproof Mascara in Black (a separate review on this). Alternatively, you can use fake lashes.

 

The finished smoky eye look, with mascara-ed lashes.
