Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara

I just realized I haven't review mascara(s) for the longest time. The last was Lashionista. So far, I've been trying out a few new ones... and going back to my trusty ones (think Heroine Make) when I'm out for events and such.

And so, I'm back with a review on Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara. Dasoda is a relatively new brand by the way, if it seems unfamiliar to you.

The packaging is simple - a black tube with gold wordings and cap.

I was really excited to try out this new mascara, since it seemed promising. Besides, I heard fellow beauty bloggers raving about Dasoda's mascaras.

The mascara brush is hourglass-shaped, with short bristles.

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes and no.

This is 3 coats of mascara, with my lashes curled (with eyelash curler) prior application. Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara does not hold curls well as my lashes droop shortly after application.

I like mascaras that have a slightly dry formula and it fits the bill. However, I find that it coats my lashes thinly albeit evenly. Even after 3 coats, my lashes look really sparse. I don't think it lengthens. Neither does it volumizes. I do like that it separates my lashes pretty well, giving them a bit of definition.

And, I also like mascaras that are black-black but this mascara's black is not that rich.

No doubt, this mascara has more misses than hits. Overall, my lashes look really natural... with no clumps, smudges or flakes at the end of day. If you love dolly lashes like I do, you can layer a volume mascara over it.

Though it has a waterproof formula, it can be easily washed off using lukewarm water. I prefer using an eye makeup remover though.

Dasoda SJ Separate & Curl Mascara retails for S$25.90, available exclusively at Sasa.

Selsun Blue Anti Dandruff Shampoo

Few months ago, I was suffering from the occasional itchy scalp. I noticed there were flaky bits that looked nothing like dandruff, hence I concluded that it was not a case of dandruff (or anything worse). The itch literally drove me nuts! I kept scratching my head, which results in bleeding. Yes, it is THAT bad!

Thankfully, I had the opportunity to try out Selsun Blue Anti Dandruff Shampoo that is said to be able to control itch. So... did it work for me?

My bro thought that it was detergent (lol)

Selsun Blue Anti Dandruff Shampoo is specially formulated to control the scaling, flaking and itching of the scalp associated with dandruff. It contains Selenium Sulfide 1%, which attacks the root source of the dandruff, treats dandruff and controls recurrence effectively.

The shampoo comes in a milky orange liquidy form with a slightly thick consistency. Taking into account it is both a shampoo and conditioner (2-in-1), it lathers quite well. The scent is pleasant, a lil' stronger than the regular shampoo.

It cleanses well and relieves my itchy scalp slightly after using it for the 1st time. And, I like that it does not dry out my hair like most anti-dandruff shampoos do. That being said, I still use a separate conditioner after using it.

Do note that it is not meant to be used as a daily shampoo. I used it twice a week for 2 weeks and saw results! Now that I've used it for 2 months (at least once a week), my scalp does not itch anymore! #truestory

Well, I am not sure if it does get rid of dandruff. However, if you do not suffer from dandruff, it can be used as a prevention.

Selsun Blue retails for $12.90 (200ml), available at Guardian, Watsons, National Skin Centre, SGH, CGH, pharmacies and supermarkets.

The New Improved Version - K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner [Waterproof, Super Black]

One of my favorites, K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Real Lasting Eyeliner, now comes in a new improved version.

Here's the features of the new improved version K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner, in a glance.

The addition of 3 types of beauty essences (hyaluronic acid na, water soluble collagen, swertia Japonica essence) is said to help care for the delicate skin around your eye area during application.

The packaging remains pretty much the same, simple (a slim black body with silver wordings).

How to use?
Shake the eyeliner a few times with the brush tip facing down before use for more vivid color.

The signature brush is soft, and it does feel ticklish upon application. Well, something that I didn't experience with the old version.

Its patented micro-fibre brush tip allows superb control and ease of application. It is perfect for drawing precise, intensely black lines with a slight glossy finish.

I really like that the new improved version is quick drying as I have a tendency to blink my eyes unknowingly... and end up with panda eyes. Definitely not a pretty sight :/

It has a tightline effect that fills up the gaps between my eyelashes. Hence, I do not need to line the upper inner rims of my eyes like I always do. Say hello to bigger & more defined eyes!

As compared to the old version, it boasts a higher resistance to water, sweat and sebum. In other words, it is extremely smudgeproof and waterproof. No doubt, it is also very long-lasting. The liner does not smudge, flake or fade all day long. Despite that, it is easy to remove without tugging the delicate skin around the eyes. According to K-Palette, it can be removed with lukewarm water. Personally, I prefer to use eye makeup remover/cleansing oil instead.

It retails for $19.90 (same price as the old version), available at Watsons and Sasa.

Kungfu Paradise “All-Day Breakfast Bonanza”

Recently, Kungfu Paradise came up with a new breakfast menu that features a range of classic favourites. Thanks to OpenRice, I had the opportunity to try them out!

KungFu Paradise, a casual "East-Meets-West" café that opens past midnight daily, features an affordable and extensive selection of Hong Kong-style classics, Asian delights, Western favourites, drinks and desserts to satiate cravings throughout the day and night. Currently, it has 4 outlets island wide >> Bedok Point, Sembawang Shopping Centre, JCube and Bugis+.

I'd been to the Bedok Point outlet, but not the others. This time, the food tasting session was held at Bugis+, a bigger outlet as compared to Bedok Point.

I think it is a great idea to have all-day breakfast as one can enjoy yummy breakfast any time!

Looks good right?! I tell you, they look as good in real life! Don't believe me? Scroll down and see for yourself...

Kay's Breakfast Combo - $11.80

I had the ultimate combo that comes with my all-time favorite sunny side up (I love eggs!), cheese sausage, turkey bacon, hash brown, toasted white bread, rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette, sautéed button mushrooms and cherry tomatoes with pesto sauce.

Given the food quality, I was certainly very impressed. I mean... even the toasted white bread taste so good! I was expecting it to be hard and tasteless. Love the hash brown, which was like super yummy! I sound exaggerated but I'm not... it taste really different from the usual ones - super crispy yet not oily. I like the sautéed button mushrooms and cherry tomatoes - simple yet flavorful. The turkey bacon and cheese sausage were pretty tasty although I find them rather oily. Regardless, I finished everything except for the rocket salad... I don't like the raw bitter taste :X

Spanish Omelette - $8.80

Egg omelette with capsicum bits, onions, chicken chipolata & topped with tomato sauce
(+ rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette)

Royal Rumble Scrambled Eggs - $10.80

Croissant with scrambled eggs, turkey bacon bits & chives
(+ rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette, cherry tomatoes with pesto sauce & sautéed button mushrooms)

Eggs Benedict with Lemon Butter Sauce - $12.90

Poached eggs sit atop baked English muffins, with turkey bacon, ham & lemon butter sauce
(+ rocket salad with balsamic vinaigrette, cherry tomatoes with pesto sauce & sautéed button mushrooms)

Wafflelicious - $9.90

Apart from Kay's Breakfast Combo, I also tried a small portion of this picture-perfect Wafflelicious. See the generous servings of fresh strawberries and blueberries (+ canned peaches)! The waffles drizzled with strawberry sauce, taste normal to me. I prefer them to be crispy on the outside. Otherwise, it would be perfect.

As usual, I needed my caffeine fix... cappuccino!

Hmm... it taste okay though not fantastic. Well, I shall try their signature coffee (Kungfu Stylo Coffee) next time!

I shall end off the post with a photo of Elaine, yours truly and Herine. Food always taste better with good company!

McDonald's The Spicy Faceoff: McSpicy vs Black Pepper Flamer

My all-time favorite McSpicy has finally meet its new challenger!

From today (18 April 2013) onwards, McDonald’s is set to tantalize your taste buds with their NEW! Black Pepper Flamer. Along with the new burger, there will be two more new menu items - Citrus Thai Shaker Fries and Lychee McFizz. Do note that they are available for a limited time only!

Thanks to Janet (OMY), I had a sneak preview of the new offerings from McDonald’s!

Lychee McFizz ($2.40) is simply a concoction of lychee syrup with Sprite. A refreshing drink, without being overly sweet. On a random note, I really like the color of this beverage, which is a subtle pink by the way

*shake-shake-shake*

Citrus Thai Shaker Fries ($2.75) taste like Tom Yum, minus the spiciness. Not spicy at all!

Ahh... I miss Seaweed Shaker Fries! That is like my favoritest Shaker Fries flavor ever... and I might have changed my mind after trying the Citrus Thai flavor. Okay, maybe not. Both are equally good, seriously!

The event kicked off with two good-looking 'chefs' contending for "The Spicy Faceoff"... Let the flames begin!

McSpicy has been around for 10 years and counting!

Will the NEW! Black Pepper Flamer win the battle?

Looks like it's gonna be a tough fight!

We were served the NEW! Black Pepper Flamer burger, followed by McSpicy. Well, we were supposed to take few bites, taste, and choose our favorite (spicy) burger. Apparently, the Black Pepper Flamer (meal: $6.40) was soooooo good that I finished it up!

I don't usually fancy buns. However, the lightly toasted cornmeal dusted bun was soft and fluffy enough to win me over. Fried to perfection, the chicken patty was crispy on the outside, super juicy and tender on the inside. Well-marinated with a feisty combination of black pepper, cumin and other spices, the taste somewhat reminds me of peppery tandoori chicken.

It wins my heart though it (surprisingly) lacks the spicy factor. If you think McSpicy is too spicy for you, try this... and fall in love! :d~

Come to think of it, I've been eating McSpicy for so many years... 10 years and counting! Umm... that explains my size :,/

Well, McSpicy is definitely much spicier... like 3x? One can taste the spiciness upon the 1st bite. Anyway, I finished up the juicy meaty chicken patty but not the sesame bun. Not a fan of buns. #justsaying

And so, I casted my vote for...

Black Pepper Flamer!
(PS: At the event, McSpicy won.)

Actually, I like BOTH! Burgers, I mean :P

Woohoo~! Lucky me won $50 McDonald’s vouchers

That's all for now. Go try the new spicy challenger, Black Pepper Flamer and vote for your favourite HERE.
(Psst... Black Pepper Flamer is leading!)
